The brighter the better

This heatwave is killing me. Specifically as a hyperhidrosis sufferer but partly because as I find myself back in the city, I just want to be by a lake/pool and here in Montreal, that proves quite difficult. With schools out for the summer, making an attempt to sit poolside also welcomes dirty children running over my body while I just try and relax while drinking my DC (or diet coke for those who don't know the abbrev.) and reading the highly recommended -and darkly hysterical- Lolita by Nabokov. It's a nightmare. So, I'm sticking to my lovely little garden on my balcony and getting lost in Humbert's fantastical road trip. Oh, and putting together silly and equally colourful outfits.

Along with the rest of the world, I've been following closely the stories of the day, Strauss-Kahn, acquitted baby-killer and party mom Casey Anthony and finally, my favourite, the demise of the News of the World tabloid and downfall of Rupert Murdoch's empire with the help of The Guardian newspaper-yippeeeee!! Charlie Brooker explains this well...

What really has been keeping me nice and occupied, is the Cobra Snake's shop. A hipster's paradise, filled with pages and pages of vintage rocker tees, cropped skirts, kooky shades, sexy girls, Peaches Geldof and men in drag. At least just have a look. Especially at this chick. She scares me a bit.

oh style rookie...where the heck did you get this?? But it's so summery!! :D

Saw this at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Ti amo Fellini you crazy man.

Apparently yellow is a 'big colour' of the season. so here you go.

OK KIDS! I better head off. Gotta work on my tan and record some tunes. Stay 'tuned'. Oy.

When you were mine

While avoiding the cold here in Montreal, pottering about the house, filing, organizing, researching random shit such as the Haitian Zombies vbs.tv video by the sexy drug addict (I am not condoning...) Hamilton Morris' Pharmacopeia piece:
nutty.
Anyhoo, I'm really into tights. Most people who know me know I rarely wear regular trousers, I own two pairs of jeans and most of my nylons are in a pretty desparate situation. Nonetheless, I recently acquired a pair of delectable over-the-knee 20denier nylons with, get this, back seam running up...well, just check it:
I also got this great and very versatile army green silk top, wearing it with literally everything at the mo. The talons are my YSL brogues, so shiny.
I think they're pretty trampy to be honest but I know they'll make an appearance on the streets of this fair city once the weather warms...49 days...spring countdown

Also this past week we all got to enjoy at an arm's length the Paris shows, my favorite was Tisci's collection of Japanese warrior-inspired couture for Givenchy. Have a peak here:
My favorite (and very unwearable) creation:
(style.com)
This week I got to take in the amazing Robyn show at Metropolis which was bananas, she was wearing these mental mummy-like leggings and industrial-looking bomber, so fierce and adorably swedish as well. You can't see her, but check out the lights! woowee!
Also got style snapped at the Funkytown after-premier party by the lovely and gorge Lolitta for the Clin D'Oeil blog site: Vintage Valentino makes another appearance!

What a fashionable week! Woot!
Hope you all have a good weekend ;)

party wear. really?

So, the holiday season is upon us. As a Jew, I generally don't get too involved with all of that nonsense. Usually over the holidays, the only way I get into the spirit is with the eating bit. Most people think that over Xmas, all the Jews go to the movies and eat Chinese, but not my family or the past couple of years when I've been thrust in the situation of having to be festively cheerful.
But seriously, over the holidays the best way to stay within the seasons greetings sort of thing is to decorate and throw a dinner party.
This year, I was fortunate enough to share it with a couple of Frenchies, another Jew, my main man and some guy from Northern Ontario. The dinner itself was eventful but the best part was dressing it up.
I'm not going to call myself a Martha Stewart but nothing says the holidays like gold fake tinsel with teeny tiny gold Jewish stars on it, snowflake decorations and a couple more Manorahs and Dreidles.
Anyways, I'm sure this is all very riveting for all you out there but seriously, just know this, any chance a Jew gets to eat, drink and dress up in all the gold and lavish wear they have is a holiday they will celebrate.
Now, I am doing a more modern twist on the season's party get up. I read recently somewhere, I can't remember (Guardian? Elle? Grazia? I don't know) that separates for the parties is a good idea. Not only do you get to wear all the lovely bits on sale that you got during this fabulous time, (or on Asos where the clearance section is my year-long holiday browse) from lovely dramatic skirts and blousy tops, or perhaps you will dare the harem with a sexy plunging neckline to bring it from business to party (think: Mullets), and lots of chunky gold goodness.
So friends, try to spread that holiday cheer around...with separates.

oh and Happy Holidays
Merry Christmas
Happy Kwanza
Seasons Greetings
Feliz Nadidad
Happy Hannukka

and a very happy New Year

Sometimes you see the world in black and white

Sometimes it's nice to see clean silhouettes, even if you do end up looking like a gothic Jane Fonda.

These are my staple leggings. American Apparel black ribbed lame. I've also got my forest green unitard that makes me feel nine-years-old again. Those three inch brogues are Yves St. Laurent bought at the fabulous Pollyanna in Barnsley, UK. A gold chain, a gift from a friend who lived in Milano for a while.
Yup, gothic Jane Fonda.
